Sisters in Service began when a small group of women veterans were brought together during their transition out of the military — a season that can feel isolating when the mission changes, the structure fades, and the built-in camaraderie of service life disappears.
From the beginning, the focus was simple: connection. Many of the earliest relationships started with coffee conversations, shared stories, and a deep understanding that comes from service. Even among women who had never met before, the bond was immediate.
What started as small gatherings grew into something bigger: a community of women who understand the challenges of transition, the weight of starting over, and the need for belonging after the uniform comes off.
Sisters in Service Greater St. Louis exists to bring women veterans back to each other — to support, sisterhood, and understanding. Today, SIS continues to grow from that same heartbeat: women connecting with women, lifting each other up, and reminding one another that none of us walks this path alone.
Leonor Branch is the Founder and President of Sisters in Service Greater St. Louis (SIS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to empower women veterans and women currently serving. A proud Air Force combat veteran, Leonor served 20 years in Administration and Recruiting, where she discovered her passion for mentorship, connection, and community.
Through SIS, she continues that mission by building spaces of belonging and sisterhood, ensuring women who served feel seen, valued, and supported.
